What constitutes a balanced diet? A diet that has all the nutrition recommended for an adult in the desired quantity. Every country or region has its own vegetables and grains that are consumed locally by its people. But from among those, one has to select those that will provide him with a balanced diet.
Let’s say that the person is an adult. He/she will require about 2200 calories. This calorie is to be divided between the meals he takes throughout the day. It is advised to consume 3 large meals and 2 small ones.
The first meal of the day is the breakfast. It should be large enough to fill the person and provide him with enough energy. There should be carbs and protein. Oats and milk or whole grain breakfast like daliya is best.
Fill your plate with vegetables and fruits. Include dry fruits. It is best to take whole fruits and not juices.
Indians mostly consume rice based diet, at least once in the day. Protein comes in the form of dal. Next, when cooking meals, add less masala, salt and oil. Cooking a great meal is not necessarily about adding a great deal of oil. Keep oil to the minimum, take no added sugars and exercise.
Usually, the breakfast should be the heaviest meal of the day and the dinner the lightest.
It is preferred to take rice during the day and avoid in dinner.
