For a long time, logjam has been noticed with the Republic Day release. In the beginning, it has been Pad Man and Aiyaary. Later on, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavat has joined the list. Due to buzz around two other films, Neeraj Pandey has decided to avoid the clash. Therefore, the release date for Aiyaary has been moved to 9th Feb. Now, Akshay Kumar has also decided to shift the release date to 9th February.
For the media, it has been really a surprise. Media has been addressed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Akshay Kumar together to announce the change with the release date. On the occasion, Bajirao Mastani director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has said that he is really “grateful for a lifetime” to Akshay as the Rustom actor has postponed the release date of his movie Padman. In reply Akshay said “at the moment the stakes of their film is much more than mine. I have done a lot of films with him. He is a dear friend. I thought itna toh karna hi chahiye (I thought I can do atleast that much).”
During the press meet, it has been also revealed that Sanjay has requested to Akshay to shift the release date and Akshay has granted the request almost immediately. Sanjay has said clearly “Ye date inki thi, humne inhe kaha aur inhon ne do minute bhi nahi lagaya aur humein de di (This was their date. We requested him to postpone and he didn’t even take two minutes and agreed to it).” It can be looked as a sacrifice of Akshay’s part certainly. Similar act of generosity may be really hard to find in Bollywood.
Now, again Padman and Aiyaary will clash at the box office. It may be important to see whether the makers of Aiyaary will change their date once again or not.
