Controversy is surrounded with the movie Padmavat even before its release. Following to a lot of trouble and turmoil, Padmavat has been releasing in the end. Story of Padmavat is based on a folklore and poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s poem Padmaavat. Brave queen of Chittor has performed Jauhar in order to save her honour from the invader named Allauddin Khilji.
Maharawal Ratan Singh aka Shahid Kapoor has gone to Singhal in order to obtain a pearl for his wife named Nagmati played by Anupriya Goenka where he met with Padmavati aka Deepika Padukone and fallen in love with her due to her beauty. Following to a marriage, they come back to Chittor. There has been an attack from Guru Raghav Chetan in between which has been stopped and the accused has been exiled. So, the guru has transfixed the idea on Allaudin Khilji’s head that Padmavati is a fabled beauty with brain. Therefore, he must have it. So, a battle has started. In the end, Allaudin Khilji has failed as Rani Padmavati performs Jauhar along with other women from Chittor.
What to look for?
Each frame of the movie is beautiful. Introduction of both Allaudin Khilji and Padmavati is remarkable. By looking at the Darbar of Khilj, you may be awestruck. Sudeep Chatterjee must be given credit for this brilliant spectacle. However, you must not able to forget about Ranveer Singh at the same time. He is excellent in the movie. Shades of power hungry nature with the traits of selfishness, ferociousness and tactical have been showcased perfectly by Ranveer.
Deepika has looked stunning. During climax, you may feel Goosebumps while watching her onscreen. Performance of Shahid is bit restrained as he spoke with eyes more than body and dialogues. Jim Sarabh is just perfect with this wicked character of slave general. Impact has been made by Aditi Rao Hydari as well.
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has done a great job indeed to showcase honour and pride of Rajput.
What is missing?
In spite of grandeur of Padmavat, it has lacked on the emotional front especially with the relationship between Ratan Singh and Rani Padmavati. Projection of Khilji may seem a little over the top. Dance of Khilji and his troops may look like a copy of Malhaari song from Bajirao Mastani.
