PadMan starring Akshay Kumar has been released at the box office already. It is a movie that has been directed by Paa director R. Balki. In this movie, question has been raised regarding menstrual hygiene. It is certainly a thing that must be given adequate thought. In spite of the movie release, Akshay Kumar has been working for the cause still now. Initiative has been taken by Akshay in collaboration with Aditya Thackrey.
On the occasion, vending machine for sanitary pads has been launched in Mumbai. Aditya has said that it is only first of the hundred vending machines that will be installed throughout the city of Mumbai. Toilet-Ek Prem Katha actor Akshay Kumar has also wrote “Placed a sanitary pad vending machine at Mumbai Central ST Bus Depot today, hoping to place more across the State and eventually hopefully the whole country. Thank you @AUThackeray for your support”
Picture from the location of launch has been shared by Aditya through his Instagram page and said “Akshay ji & I are placing 60 sanitary pad vending machines across the State. The rotary club has joined us with 40. We are in the 100 club! Thank you @akshaykumar ji for this initiative. Our first machine was placed at Mumbai’s First only ladies toilet in Tardeo. Now Transport Minister Diwakar Raote has given us permission to place 30 machines across MSRTC bus depots. That is where it really will be used. We also will be placing it in colleges”. It is a kind of initiative that may be extended in future.
Starting a viral campaign on social media, Akshay has challenged the celebrities to post picture with sanitary pads in hand. In India, there are lot of misconceptions and taboos regarding the use of sanitary pads. Therefore, situation must be handled in an intelligent manner. Issues related to menstrual hygiene can be avoided in the process only.
