Following to a long sabbatical, Deepika Padukone will be back on the sets. Last release of Deepika has been Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavaat. Recently, Deepika has announced her upcoming movie which will be directed by Raazi fame Meghna Gulzar. Interestingly, Deepika will become a producer with this movie also. It has been said that the movie will be based upon the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
Previously, it has been heard that Rajkummar Rao will be casted opposite Deepika in this movie. However, confirmation has come now that A Death in the Gunj actor Vikrant Massey will be seen in this movie. Role of Alok Dixit, Laxmi’s partner will be played by Vikrant here. Title of the movie has been decided also which is ‘Chhapak’ and it means ‘sound of splash’
During an interview with a daily, director Meghna Gulzar has said “The cast is slowly coming together. Vikrant is somebody I’ve wanted to work with since Raazi, after seeing him in A Death in the Gunj. In the film, he plays a North Indian boy who used to be a professional before he decided to become an actor, then, started a campaign against acid violence which is how he came to meet Laxmi in real life. I speak for both Deepika and myself when I say that we are both really excited to have Vikrant play this part.”
Shooting of the movie will be done mostly in Delhi and Mumbai. Right now, prosthetic tests are going on. Meghna has also said that she has only thought of Deepika while researching for this movie. Following to a narration, Deepika has said yes to the movie. Meghna has said, “It was that organic because it’s such a moving story. And the decision to co-produce the film with her also happened organically because I wanted to remain close to it through the entire process”
